Meet Fashion Designer, Sandra C. Hagen
I first saw fashion designer, Sandra C. Hagen’s, work through our wonderful friend, Facebook. What caught my attention right away about Sandra’s work was her attention to detail. Everything from a detailed hemline to detailed photography. I can appreciate a fellow perfectionist and though she hasn’t told me that she is one, I think I can spot it in her (smiles). There are many reasons why I see Sandra as a top fashion designer and her childhood had a lot to do with why she became one.
Childhood Memories of a Fashion Designer
Sandra was inspired to be a fashion designer at a very early age. The first person who inspired her was her grandmother. Sandra admired her grandmother’s crochet work; she would see it as delicate art. Sandra believes her love for lace grew because of the admiration for her grandmother’s crocheting. Using her vintage black and gold Singer sewing machine, Sandra learned how to sew and used this skill as a way to fix things around the house and make clothes for her dolls. Sandra was also inspired by her father, a skilled shoe maker who would make every single piece by hand. Though her father has been gone for a long time, Sandra holds on to the memories of her father and his amazing shoes.
Sandra’s pieces are unique and she makes every detail herself. Her collections are so diverse and can be described with such adjectives like romantic, edgy, feminine and daring. But just what exactly inspires this talented, Colombian born fashion designer? Sandra finds inspiration from just about anywhere; an image, a memory, a combination of textures and color, or however her mood and feelings are at that particular point in time. She says that the source of her inspiration has a lot to do with what the end result will be.

Words of Wisdom from a Fashion Designer
Seeking a source of inspiration is just one of the challenges a fashion designer will face. There will be difficult times and there will be happy times. Taking this into consideration I decided to ask Sandra what her advice for aspiring designers would be. Here’s what she said:
“My advice for an aspiring fashion designer would be to stay persistent. It’s not an easy field, but if you believe in what you do, have what it takes, and have something to say, don’t give up too soon. Trust your instincts in everything you do. Part of being an artist is being sensitive to our surroundings and feelings. That’s one of my best assets, I always try to go with what feels right to me. Surround yourself with people that truly believe in you and what you do unconditionally.”
