Goodbye, Mom Stereotype; Hello, Fashion Mama
Did you make any of the following excuses after having had a baby: 1) Nothing fits me, my body is not the same, 2) I don’t ever have time to shop and try things on, 3) I don’t know what looks right on me, 4) I don’t know how to create an outfit, and my favorite, 5) “My kids always spit up on me, or rub their dirty hands on my clothes. I can’t have anything nice!” As a mother of a 22 month old, I am guilty of making a few of the excuses listed above. However, moms everywhere, it’s time to reclaim your former passion for fashion and do away with the “mom uniform” stereotype, sweats are not for us! Say hello to the fashion mama!
Life-Changing Event of the Fashion Mama
My lifestyle drastically changed as soon as my son made his first appearance at the Naval Medical Center San Diego in March of 2010. Before my son came into the picture, I could pretty much go anywhere and do anything as I pleased. Today, my life revolves around changing diapers, distracting tantrums, hiding vegetables in meals, tripping over toys, visiting museums and local parks, occasional sleepless nights…the joys of being a mom. Everyday does bring many challenges, but I would not change a thing with the exception of tantrums…yikes! Nonetheless, it was inevitable that my sense of fashion had to be tweaked a bit here and there to accommodate this new stage in my life: motherhood.
Fashion Mama Meets Comfort
Don’t get me wrong. My love for fashion and acquiring unique pieces of clothing or accessories has not changed; yet, comfort and affordability are now a requirement for my wardrobe. Yes, my heels don’t come out to play very often except the occasional date night with my husband. My clutches (except my JuJuBe Quick wristlet) and small handbags are beautifully adorning the inside of my closet, while my diaper bags see the outside world everyday. Let’s be realistic, what sane mother would be chasing a toddler in heels at the local playground? Not me, that’s for sure!

Being a mom of two and young I can relate to this article. A great shoe option for me are colorful flats, wedges or espadrilles. Love them, you can look chic and feel comfortable at the same time while looking fashion

When you’ve have kids you have to make concessions… first thing that goes is the shoes, who can follow a child in anything but flats… next is the clothing, you can’t bend down in tight jeans or pants and you can take it from there.
